After a long time we are finally prepared to make the next jump in our development of the SQR Runner, bringing the "4" to a close, but continue with "5" as the major version.

The new SQR Runner 5 version, which is currently in early beta stage, has a new and much enhanced user interface, supports Windows 7 much better and offers several new features and enhancements we'd like to share with you.

With the feature bulletins below several of the most noticeable changes will be presented. As the saying goes "an image tells more than a 1000 words", you may click on any image to enlarge it.

We would like to welcome everybody to provide feedback and send us your questions, suggestions and comments at anytime.

SQR Runner 5 - New Look and Feel

With SQR Runner 5 a brand new look is introduced, customisable by the user in several areas, like the visual appearance styles of different Office or Windows versions. The same look and feel presents on current Windows 7 machines as well as Windows XP, Windows 2000 or even Windows Server 2008 (with or without themes enabled).

SQR Runner 5 - Repository Support Filtering

With support for different database types and PeopleSoft versions, the special Repository Support is one of the most used features in daily SQR development. With a new display it is now easily possible to sort the data by just a click on the column header or filter the data by specific values.

SQR Runner 5 - Repository Filter Dialog

With huge table (record) structures the search for specific columns can obviously be tediours. Now it is possible to conveniently filter by specifying one or multiple conditions. In the shown example a list of all table columns (fields), which have 'SET' as part of their name, is filtered. The filter criteria may be activated/deactivated by a single click and saved to/loaded from a file.

SQR Runner 5 - Repository Excel Export

All details of the Repository Support's 'Fields (Columns)' display can now be exported to an Excel-readable file. This may then be used for e.g. program documentation, version change management or just as a plain cheat-sheet printout for the developer.

SQR Runner 5 - Enhanced Open Dialog

With the new explorer bar display in the Open File dialog it is now easier to navigate and browse across multiple levels of directories. Though this is a feature first seen in newer Windows versions, the SQR Runner offers this across all platforms.

SQR Runner 5 - New Visual Styles

With the SQR Runner 5 a common visual appearance is introduced, regardless of a Windows theme being active or not. With a special Visual Style selection the user can select from a wide range of commonly used styles, with which the SQR Runner's appearance stays the same even across different Windows versions.

SQR Runner 5 - Collapsable Information Pane

By default the SQR Runner offers 3 different docking areas to hold different information displays. Each may be shown or hidden to allow for as much information as needed to reclaim visible editor space, especially on smaller screen resolutions (like 1024x768 pixels).Pinning a docking area like the Information Pane (top image) will make it stay visible at all times. However, by clicking the top-right 'pin' image (and vice-versa) it becomes unpinned and collapses to just a small bar with captions (bottom image). It first becomes visible again whenever the mouse cursor is moved over it.

SQR Runner 5 - New File Tabs

Switching files within the SQR Runner 5 is easy as a breeze with the new file tabs. The active file tab offering an explicit close button and an indicator image - if present - indicates a file containing unsaved changes. With multiple files being open eventually on the right-side special buttons for scrolling the file tabs are shown (first/previous/next/last). Always available at the right-end is a list of all open files for even easier picking the right file.

SQR Runner 5 - Debugger Windows with Common Look

The integrated debugger windows Call Stack, Watches and Breakpoints windows now appear in a common look as well. In addition, contents of both Watches and Breakpoints may be sorted by a single click on the column headers.

SQR Runner 5 - Collapsable Docking Areas

Similar to the example shown for the Information Pane, the left- and right-side docking areas can be switched from pinned to unpinned display mode and vice versa. Being pinned, as shown in the above image, the editor benefits directly from the freed space and becomes larger in display width automatically.

SQR Runner 5 - Code Repositories Integration

With a single click the SQR Runner builds a code repository of all declared procedures across all files found in the current Login's search path. The results can then be grouped by e.g. filename, directory or procedure name.
